Skyway Delights: Must Eats in the Minneapolis Skyway

It took me many a year before I was working downtown Minneapolis… But once I did the Skyway world became my oyster.

The tunnels connecting our downtown; an almost different city living within these bubbles. (or the official name of “pedestrian footbridge”…) Many and I included, not daring to venture out when the snow starts blowing.

These tunnels are a mystery to many. Every day I see a soul wandering around praying they find their way. I myself have been lost many a time and have relied upon my trusty skyway map.  (That map has mysteriously disappeared)

Thankfully I no longer need such a map, having made these tunnels my oyster and all.

The remaining mystique of the skyways to me is devoted to the food offerings within.

The skyways have no shortage of chain restaurants. The Chipotle line, 100 people deep, kills me every time. There are so many more and better options. Why spend your entire lunch hour and I mean HOUR in that line?! Its reliable I know. It can be safe, or not……. (See recent food illness claims.) Take a chance and switch it up once in a while.

Below are some of my Skyway favorites.

Andrea Pizza: A staple really. You see those little white bags floating around the skyways. People carrying them proudly back to cubes and offices around downtown. Join em. Be a part of the lunchtime cult. Mix and match your pizza slices and call and thank me after you’ve had a glorious nap under your cube.

Kikugawa: I remember the days of Kikugawa in Northeast. Bummed were we when those lights went out. But all can now rejoice as they are serving up ramen and sushi and overall hitting the spot in the skyways. Order the ramen spicy and thank me later.

Takatsu Sushi: I discovered this place on yelp and for the life of me could not figure out where I was. (Pre-Skyway oyster making) However I went early and discovered the freshest sushi one will find for that 9-5 lunch hour. Don’t go late, the line will intimidate you and mimic Chipotle lengths.

World Café: World Café has recently changed ownership hands which has allowed the options and creativity to flow. My favorite breakfast sandwich is housed within these walls. My next order will be one of their lunchtime bowls.

Bep Eatery: Bep has seriously the friendliest staff. I always feel welcome and wanted as I’m ordering my pho with all of the ingredients. The spring rolls here are also on point, have a few and roll yourself back up to the office.

Bep

La Belle Crepe: Rightly so this place puts heavy competition on Bep’s pho. Both however are different and delicious in their own right. I love the feel here with its teeny tiny eat in counter. I get flashes of my trips to Paris and Vietnam. If I can get glimpses of my past wanderlust in the skyway; it adds that extra flavor oompfh.

La Creperie

Sprout Salad Company: So I eat many more a salad than this blog or my Instagram may exude. You can find me here at least once a week switching up my salad selection. Remind me next time to get that frequent buyer card. For real.

Il Foro: I could not leave out the infamous only served at lunch burger. I have had this burger now three times. It is a lunchtime indulgence that cannot be beat. After those annoying and often heated conference calls, go and shove your face in this burger. Trust me, it helps. The oooey gooiness of the cheese is the perfect post conference call antidote.

It occurs to me now…I should have really titled this post: Skyway Noodle Wars… per all of the noodle dishes above. Or have done a completely separate noodle post… But hey, its Minnesota where seven months out of the year have me craving spicy, brothy noodles anyway. What else would you eat?!

Now I know I’ve neglected a few other loved spots. What are your favorite skyway eats?

Adult Spring Break

Girls weekends are necessary. Adult spring break with your best college friends, priceless.

A four day weekend on a beach… the perfect treat.

Now that we are back and I’m hit hard with multiple realities, heres a (mostly) visual recap 🙂

The most perfect welcome.

Classy T-shirt shop stops may have happened.  I may have made a purchase…

Shopping makes me hungry…

Rides with classy ads are required on Adult Spring Break. But really, I have the contact info for the best, most reliable, most comedic driver in all of Daytona Beach. I’ll introduce you 🙂

So dearly miss waking up to this view.

Thank you ladies for an amazing Adult Spring Break 🙂

Are you taking a vacation? Where are you headed?

MKE in MPLS Part 2

Happy Thursday! Who is already thinking about the weekend? I am, even though I was able to celebrate Columbus Day…. and by celebrate, I mean nap.

When a little piece of Milwaukee lands in Minneapolis, naps on Mondays are inevitable.

You may have seen our bacon brunch, shopping adventures and French Fries indulgence…. which all had to be topped off with a Saturday night out on the town.

I needed a restaurant with an entertaining atmosphere, somewhat party-ish, and cuisine G does not normally go out for at home.

So Chino Latino it was.

We got our party atmosphere… pretty sure it was a sorority bachelorette party, singing, chanting and dancing on their table.. Of course I’m thinking, the bride to be is going to slip and fall on a noodle….

photo (112)

(stop thinking worst case scenario… stop it!)

Just eat your Phuket noodles already…!

Every table should have smoking sushi..

After ordering and eating way too much food, one cannot leave this party without partaking in the signature drink. Or shot.

The Saki Bomb.

It took a bit of convincing, ok, a ton of peer pressure…

I mean, we needed to blend in with party loving sorority crowd…

But we most definitely had a Saki Bomb success.

I’ll keep the evidence to myself 🙂

What are you doing this weekend?

Murasaki Cravings

Prior to ending my Month in the burbs, we had to stop by a family favorite.

A family favorite, that yes, is found in a strip mall. It started off small and eventually took over additional space. A family owned joint that every time, recognizes our family.  A spot that knows Father always gets the Teriyaki Chicken, minus the Teriyaki….

Hold the sugar please.

A place you may be shocked to find has great sushi. Just walk inside.

Hello Murasaki.

I never fail to clean my plate.

Wasabi pork shumai, yes I ate every single one.

If you are ever in Stillwater, check out this place out. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Where are you headed this weekend?

Bringing Back the Weekend

In this episode of bringing back the weekend, we pretty much cover all of my favorite things.   What girl turns down wine, seafood, and shopping? Especially when all of those things can be found under one roof? The Public Market has to be the best place ever.

photo (3)

Whatever you are craving, you can find it there.  Want to sip away the afternoon?  Just do some wine tasting… and sample flavors from all over.

Craving a margarita?  Some sushi? How about some soup to combat the never ending winter?  Its all under one roof.

Stare at lobsters all day?  or during a two hour lunch?

photo (2)

Sample some of my favorite seafood delights?

photo (6)

Proceed to shop for wine….. Can I admit that sometimes I buy wine just based on the label?

photo (4)

And sample some olive oil like the sophisticated people we are….

Can we just bring back the weekend already?
